Herbert Beckhard

Herbert Beckhard was born on January 28, 1926, in New York City.  He studied architecture at Pennsylvania State University, and received a bachelor of architecture degree in 1949.  He then did graduate work at Princeton University, from where he received an MFA in 1950.  Beginning in 1951 Beckhard joined Marcel Breuer and Associates, and became a partner and design coordinator in 1964.  Prior to joining Breuer's firm, he was a draftsman for Fritz Nathan and the firm of Vorhees, Walker, Folely & Smith.  After Marcel Breuer retired in 1979, Beckhard joined with fellow a Breuer associate, Frank Richlan, to form Herbert Beckhard Frank Richlan & Associates, which later became BRS+A.
